Profile: Urban development, exception & rule
Since 1981, the business unit "Urban Development" is accomplishing missions of urban renewal. We are particularly committed to the clients of youth and social care offices, to unemployed persons, the youth and social care organisations as well as to socio-cultural institutions.
As fiduciary urban renewal agency for Berlin and Brandenburg, we are planning and implementing housing and infrastructure development schemes, mainly in the existing housing stock. It is particularly important for us to mobilise self-help and to integrate activities of social and employment policy.
Within the scope of neighbourhood management and other complex processes of urban renewal, area-based and social problems are solved in disadvantaged neighbourhoods.
Thanks to the involvement of the concerned population, we manage to develop activities likely to trigger additional social processes and which are particularly important for the consolidation of social structures.
As developer for public authorities we organise, when implementing our individual projects, intensive processes of participation and self-help, and we also integrate employment promotion activities.
The work of our business unit pursues the following objectives: safeguard of social standards; inclusion of categories of the population who are in social or economic need; provision of affordable housing for them; advanced vocational training and gainful employment as well as participation in social and cultural life.
The development and promotion of self-help is the guiding idea of all our activities.
